But when it comes to music, there are a few venues in the world that are as famous as Red Rocks. Everyone from Yo-Yo Ma to the Turnpike Troubadours has played on the stage between the 300-foot sandstone monoliths known as Ship Rock and Creation Rock.  The natural acoustics, breathtaking views, and lineup of world-class artists make it a must-visit destination for music fans. But what many don’t realize is that just over an hour southwest of Red Rocks lies one of Colorado’s most renowned fly-fishing destinations, North Fork Ranch Guide Service in Shawnee, Colorado. Pairing a Red Rocks concert with a stay and guided trip at the ranch creates the perfect Colorado getaway, blending music, adventure, and mountain relaxation.

Easy Drive from Red Rocks

Located just a short, scenic drive of approximately 60–75 minutes from Red Rocks, North Fork Ranch is nestled along the North Fork of the South Platte River, near the charming mountain towns of Bailey and Shawnee. The tranquil journey takes you through Evergreen and along winding forest highways, gently transitioning from the buzz of a concert to the calm of the Rockies.

Orvis-Endorsed Fly Fishing Destination

North Fork Ranch Guide Service is not just any Fly-fishing lodge-it’s an Orvis-Endorsed one, meeting the highest industry standards for service, water quality, and guiding. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned angler, their expert guides provide a top-tier experience on private water stretches that are meticulously managed for fish health and habitat.

The ranch offers access to trophy trout rainbows, browns, and cutbows on both private and public water, including the ranch’s namesake stretch of the North Fork. Their private waters are well-stocked and protected, offering guests a chance to hook fish that commonly reach 20 inches or more.

Lodging and Ranch Atmosphere

North Fork Ranch isn’t just a guide service; it’s also a full-service lodge. Guests can stay overnight in rustic log cabins or lodge-style rooms overlooking the river and surrounding forests. Meals are homemade and hearty, served family-style or tailored to the guest experience. The ranch offers a peaceful, Western atmosphere, ideal for unwinding after a night at Red Rocks.

Ideal Weekend Itinerary

For those planning a trip to Red Rocks, adding a night or two at North Fork Ranch offers a seamless transition from high-energy entertainment to high-country tranquility. Consider staying in Golden or Morrison for your concert night, then making the short drive south the next morning to begin your fishing adventure. Full-day guided trips include all necessary gear, flies, and instruction.

Booking and Planning

Because North Fork Ranch operates primarily on private water and limits angler pressure, reservations are highly recommended, especially during peak summer and fall seasons. Booking in advance ensures access to lodging, meals, and your choice of guided trip. You can learn more or make a reservation directly on this site!

The Bottom Line

This is a new idea. There are many folks who come to the North Fork and do just what we’ve been discussing. They add a day or a few on their trip out here. They get to stay in our beautiful Lodge, chase some trout on some awesome water surrounded by the beautiful hills of Colorado, and, on top of that, experience music and what is one of the greatest music venues in the history of music.  It doesn’t get better than that,  so next time you see that artist you’ve been dying to see at the Red Rocks announcer show, get those tickets and book with us, and you’re not going to regret the experience!
