The South Platte River and its tributaries surround us at the North Fork Ranch. Our guide service has the necessary permits to access some of the best water the South Platte River has to offer. Many of our guides call these areas their “home waters”. Our team has many years of experience fishing and guiding this famed stretch of river. Although our guide service is most known for its private water opportunities, we would love the opportunity to show you around our favorite public stretches of the South Platte!

FLY FISHING THE SOUTH PLATTE RIVER IN COLORADO

Known to many as a Gold Medal western trout river, the South Platte River flows through seven dams between South Park and Denver. The South Platte is primarily known for its tailwaters. Cheeseman Canyon, Elevenmile Canyon, and the Dream Stream below Spinney Mountain Reservoir (Charlie Meyers SWA) are all located within an hour’s drive from the North Fork Ranch.

The angling opportunities range from technical tailwater fishing to small creek fishing. Our experienced fly-fishing guides are eager to share their knowledge of these iconic stretches of water with you!

EXPLORE TRIBUTARIES OF THE SOUTH PLATTE RIVER

The middle Fork of the South Platte, the South Fork of the South Platte, and Tarryall Creek are about 15 miles outside of Fairplay, Colorado. The higher reaches of the South Platte River are home to endless miles of meandering small creeks. The average size of fish in these streams might be smaller, but the fish are more opportunistic. After runoff, these streams can present some of the best dry fly-fishing opportunities in the west. These small streams are all located within an hour from our headquarters at North Fork Ranch.
